PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO) formerly known as PT International Nickel Indonesia, engages in nickel mining. It was established in July 1968, obtained a licence from the Indonesian government to explore, mine, and process nickel. In 1973, the company built its first smelter in Sorowako, South Sulawesi. Then, in 1977, it also built hydro-powered generator. Its commercial production started in 1978 and went IPO in May 1990. In January 1996, the licence was extended to December 2025. The company kept growing by building hydro-powered generators, mining waste treatment facilities, and performing post-mining rehabilitation programs.
