JAKARTA - Indonesia continues to make breakthrough efforts to accelerate the growth of the national electric vehicle industry. This is in line with the world's trend towards the use of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles.
"The government has set a target that by 2025 the production of battery-based electric motorized vehicles (KBLBB) will reach 400 thousand units for four wheels and 1.76 million units for two wheels. This production target will continue to increase until 2030 which will reach 600 thousand units of four wheels and 2.45 million units of two wheels," said Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) Ministry of Industry, Taufiek Bawazier at Jakarta, Thursday (18/2).
The Director General of ILMATE explained that the target was set in order to support the achievement of the government's target to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 29% by 2030. In addition, it also makes Indonesia one of the main players in the world's automotive producers.
In line with this, the government has also issued a regulation to support the development of the electric vehicle industry such as Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 regarding the acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle (KBLBB) program for road transportation which is organized through accelerating the development of the domestic KBLBB industry, providing incentives, providing electricity charging infrastructure and setting electricity rates for KBLBB, compliance with KBLBB technical provisions, and protection of the environment.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry has issued Regulation of the Minister of Industry Number 27 of 2020 concerning Specifications, Development Roadmaps, and Provisions for Calculating the Value of Domestic Component Levels of Battery Electric Motor Vehicles (Battery Electric Vehicle) and the Minister of Industry Regulation No. 28 of 2020 related to Battery-based Electric Motorized Vehicles in a Complete Degradable (CKD) and Incompletely Degradable State (IKD).
