Economy recovers, Astra scores highest car sales since pandemic
JAKARTA. PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) managed to record the highest number of car sales since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, boasting sales growth of 17.4%.
Boy Kelana Soebroto, Head of Corporate Communications of ASII, claimed that said growth entails the increase of the purchase power of Indonesian masses. Furthermore, he believes that car sales growth occurred due to the launching of new car models and the government’s support in 2022.
“We pray that the automotive market will remain positive in 2023 amidst the issue of global economic decline,” Soebroto mentioned in the official disclosure.
Based on IDNFinancials data, ASII’s total car sales in the domestic market in 2022 clocked up to 574,198 units. In the same period in 2021, the number was stuck at 489,209 units.
Toyota+Lexus still dominated ASII’s car sales in 2022, selling off 332,443 units. Then, Daihatsu followed with 202,665 units of car sold, while Isuzu recorded sales of 36,646 units, UD Trucks of 1,982 units, and Peugeot of 451 units.
Approximately 139,845 units of total cars sold by ASII in 2022 are categorised as LCGC, making up 75% of LCGC market share in the domestic market. Meanwhile, the market share of ASII’s cars in general in 2022 still arrived at 55%. (KR/ZH)
