JAKARTA - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has scheduled the commercial operation date (COD) of the Steam Power Plant (lit. Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap/PLTU) of Mulut Tambang Sumsel-8 in September 2023. As of now, this power plant, which had taken up investment worth USD 1.68 billion, is entering its commissioning phase.

Arsal Ismail, President Director of PTBA, said that the energizing process for igniting the power by PLN, which went from the high-voltage power lines of 275 kV in Lumut Lumut Balai-Muara Enim to PLTU Tanjung Lalang had successfully taken place last week (7/5). “The success in this backfeeding phase is vital to the nett dependable capacity (NDC) test of the first power plant, which is targeted to be finished by the end of July 2023,” he stated in the official release quoted today (10/5).

PLTU Sumsel-8 utilises super-critical technology that is said to be efficient and environmentally friendly. This project was initiated by PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP), a joint venture formed alongside China Huadian Hongkong Company Ltd.

In the future, this power plant will take up coal production of PTBA of over 5 million tons per year. The power purchase agreement and coal supply agreement for this PLTU had been signed by PLN and PTBA. (LK/ZH)
