JAKARTA. CEO of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BRIS), Hery Gunardi, is granted the award of the Best CEO of Sharia Bank in TOP CEO Awards 2023 held by Tempo-IDNFinancials.

Hery Gunardi began to take office as CEO of BRIS in 2021. Prior to this, he sat as President Director of PT Bank Syariah Mandiri in 2020-2021 and filled several key positions at PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) since 2013.

In his term, Hery Gunardy managed to raise BRIS's net profit by up to 40.59% in 2022 to IDR 4.26 trillion. Meanwhile, in 2021, its net profit only clocked up to IDR 3.03 trillion.

For the record, TOP CEO Awards 2022 is a part of collaboration by Tempo dan IDNFinancials, following the launch of Indeks52 last June. This award is granted to key figures of several publicly listed companies, who are deemed successful in leading their company's growth whilst maintaining its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

According to IDNFinancials data, BRIS used to be called PT Bank BRI Syariah Tbk, a sharia subsidiary of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI). In early 2021, the company became the recipient of a merger of two other state-owned sharia banks, PT Bank Syariah Mandiri and PT Bank BNI Syariah. (KR/ZH)
