Swarmed by young investors, capital market’s assets still in the hand of veterans
JAKARTA. The number of investors in the capital market of Indonesia has reportedly increased 18.01% in 2023, thanks to retail investors’ growing interest, according to the data from Indonesia Central Security Depository (KSEI).
With this growth trend, the number of capital market investors was recorded at 12.17 million in 2023. For comparison, the number of investors in 2022 was only 10.13 million.
In terms of segment, retail investors dominated Indonesian capital market in 2023, totalling to 99.66%. Meanwhile, institutional investors only made up 0.34% of total registered investors.
In terms of age group, 56.43% of Indonesian capital market investors were less than 30 years of age. Meanwhile, investors of 31-40 years old made up 23.58% of total investors, followed by investors of 41-50 years old of 11.55%, 51-60 years old of 5.53%, and over 60% of 2.91%.
Despite its number, the accumulated assets of investors aged below 30 years old were recorded only at IDR 35.09 trillion, equal to 2.48% of total assets of investors in the capital market of Indonesia. Meanwhile, investors aged over 60 years old were dominating the assets with total accumulated capital of IDR 916.98 trillion or 64.90%. (KR/ZH)
