BANDUNG – Sunarso, the President Director of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI), has been named The Best CEO with Special Mention: Most Expansive Sustainable Financing Activities at the prestigious Top CEO Awards Indonesia 2024, held in Bandung on Friday, November 15, 2024.

As of December 2023, BBRI reported a credit portfolio amounting to IDR 1,266 trillion. Of this total, 67.1%—equivalent to IDR 777.28 trillion—was allocated to sustainable financing, positioning BBRI among the leaders in this segment within Indonesia’s banking industry.

The bank’s commitment to supporting the community remains at the core of its operations. According to BBRI’s 2023 Sustainability Report, financing to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) represents the bulk of the bank’s sustainable portfolio, reaching IDR 692.33 trillion or 60.41% of the overall financing disbursed.

In addition, green financing—funding directed towards environmental sustainability—accounted for IDR 80.41 trillion, or 7.02% of the total. This includes financing for renewable energy projects, green transportation and infrastructure, pollution control, water management, and waste treatment.

The growth of BBRI’s green credit portfolio has been notable. In 2023, the green financing portfolio saw a 2.04% year-on-year (YoY) increase, rising from IDR 78.8 trillion in 2022 and IDR 70.8 trillion in 2021, demonstrating a steady expansion of the bank’s environmental footprint.

Under Sunarso’s leadership, BBRI has consistently posted solid financial performance alongside healthy asset growth. By September 2024, the bank recorded a 4.5% YoY increase in net revenue, reaching IDR 105.76 trillion, while net profit rose by 2.6% YoY to IDR 45.36 trillion.

This recognition follows a similar accolade in 2023, when TEMPO-IDNFinancials awarded Sunarso The Best CEO in the Most Profitable Bank at the Top CEO Indonesia 2023, held in Bali in December 2023. This was in recognition of his role in transforming BBRI into one of Indonesia’s most profitable financial institutions. (ZH)
