JAKARTA – During PT Ingria Pratama Capitalindo Tbk’s (GRIA) Public Expose on Tuesday (21/1), Ridwan Kamil (RK), who also serves as an Independent Commissioner of GRIA, shared his insights on the expansion of his coffee business, Jabarano.

The name "Jabarano" comes from "Jabar," representing West Java, where the coffee brand originates, and "Ano," taken from the word "uno," meaning one. This reflects the founders' vision to make Jabarano the top coffee brand from West Java in Indonesia.

The name was coined by Ridwan Kamil in 2019, with the first Jabarano store opening in Melbourne the same year. After obtaining permission to use the name from RK, the business was officially managed by Arnold Dharmma.

RK further elaborated on Jabarano's expansion plans, which include not only opening coffee shops but also integrating the coffee supply chain—from cultivation to retail. “We aim to unite the entire process: from upstream to downstream,” he explained.

RK highlighted supply challenges as a significant hurdle for the coffee shop business. “One weakness in Indonesia’s coffee sector is that cultivation practices are not yet optimal. For example, in Vietnam, 1 hectare can yield up to 5 tons of coffee, whereas in Indonesia, 1 hectare only produces 1 ton,” he noted during the Public Expose.

Additionally, RK outlined plans to increase the number of Jabarano outlets. He emphasized the huge potential for growth if the business scales beyond 10 branches. “For instance, Starbucks generates IDR 300 trillion in revenue from its global network of outlets,” he added.

Regarding capital expenditure, RK mentioned that the target for this year is around IDR 50 billion, which will be allocated to opening 10 to 15 new branches. (DK/ZH)
