JAKARTA – PT Mitra Investindo Tbk (MITI), through its subsidiary, has obtained a Mining Business License (IUP) for the exploration of quartz sand, more popularly known as silica sand, in Ketapang, West Kalimantan.

Andreas Tjahjadi, President Director of MITI, announced that the license was granted to PT Kendawangan Berkah Kersik (KBK), a subsidiary indirectly owned by the company through PT Nusantara Bina Silika (NBS). The exploration area granted to KBK covers 2,042.03 hectares.

Tjahjadi added that securing this permit is an integral part of MITI's portfolio, which has spanned decades. “MITI is committed to supporting the government’s efforts in silica downstreaming to promote self-sufficiency in domestic photovoltaic (PV) module and semiconductor industries,” Tjahjadi said in a public disclosure on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).

Tjahjadi aims for KBK to begin silica sand production by 2026. (KR/ZH)
