Government eyes extra 103 GW capacity, 75% from renewable energy
JAKARTA – The government, through PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN, has outlined a 15-year long-term plan to establish power plants with a combined capacity of up to 103 gigawatts (GW).
This was conveyed by Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo, the President's Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, during the ESG Sustainability Forum 2025 on Friday (31/1).
"Most of this, around 75%, will come from renewable energy sources, such as geothermal, wind, solar power, and nature-based biomass," he said.
In addition, the government plans to construct nuclear power plants (PLTN) with a capacity of up to 4.3 GW, utilising Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. "Floating SMRs and several large nuclear power plants, each with a capacity of 1 GW, will provide solutions to the challenges posed by climate change," Djojohadikusumo explained.
This initiative, according to Djojohadikusumo, aligns with Indonesia's commitment to achieving its energy transition targets and reducing carbon emissions, while also meeting the country's growing electricity needs in the future. (DK/KR/ZH)
