Rumour of Grab acquiring GOTO reemerges, hindered by anti-trust law?
JAKARTA – The talk of Grab Holdings Ltd.’s plan to acquire PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) is once again rising, following the latest report from Bloomberg and DealStreetAsia, today (4/2).
According to the source cited in the report, Grab is said to once again considering the acquisition of GOTO with valuation of over USD 7 billion.
One of the strategies currently being discussed, cited the source, involves the entire acquisition of GOTO’s shares at a premium price point, IDR 100 each. The talk regarding this acquisition is set to complete by 2025.
GOTO has declined to give a response towards this acquisition rumour, and Grab has yet to deliver any comments, as well.
According to IDNFinancials data, the issue regarding GOTO acquisition by Grab is not the first, as it began to emerge a couple of years ago.
At that time, Grab is even rumoured to merge with GOTO in order to reduce operational cost efficiency and lower competitive tension between them. However, Grab and GOTO had yet to reach any agreement. On the other hand, there is also a matter of antitrust law in Indonesia. (KR/ZH)
