Blue Bird sets up 1000 EV expansion in 2025
JAKARTA – PT Blue Bird Tbk (BIRD) is set to integrate 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet in 2025, marking an aggressive expansion compared to its existing 300 EV units as of last year.
Andre Djokosoetono, CEO of Blue Bird, stated that at least 50% of the 1,000 EVs would be operational by the end of the first semester of 2025. He also mentioned that the new EV fleet would not only focus on taxis but be diversified across other services. “For the first phase, it will still be a mixed deployment,” he explained.
Blue Bird is expanding its EV adoption into other service lines, including Goldenbird (car and limousine rental) and Bigbird (bus services). The company recently launched 60 electric buses for public transportation in Medan.
“We're seeing that EVs are no longer limited to four-wheeled vehicles but have also expanded to mass transportation like buses. We have even launched a fully electric BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) service,” said Andrew Arristianto, Chief Strategy Officer of Blue Bird, during a media gathering today (6/2).
Arristianto further projected that more cities would require EV-based public transportation in the future. “In 2025, we see a big opportunity for us to be more aggressive than usual, and we expect to add approximately 1,000 EVs to our fleet this year,” he added.
Regarding the brands of EVs for the expansion, Djokosoetono said that the company would continue working with existing Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) brands while exploring new brands, though no final agreements have been made.
“We have already introduced Hyundai Genesis into our Goldenbird fleet. We've primarily used the Hyundai Ionic 5, and now we’ve added Hyundai Genesis. We also have BYD M6, and we will continue to expand,” Djokosoetono concluded. (ZH)
