JAKARTA – Star Energy Geothermal, a subsidiary of PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN), has completed the Salak Binary project, increasing the capacity of its geothermal power plant (PLTP) by 15.5 MW (gross capacity). This brings Star Energy Geothermal's total installed capacity to 901.5 MW, making it one of the largest geothermal producers in the world.
Hendra Tan, CEO of Barito Renewables, shared that the company successfully completed a 72-hour commissioning test for the Salak Binary project, exceeding expectations. "We extend our gratitude to all stakeholders and the entire team for supporting the completion of this project," he said on Monday (10/2).
The project is part of Barito Renewables' expansion strategy in the renewable energy sector. In addition to geothermal power plants, BREN also acquired a 78.75 MW wind power plant in 2024.
Moreover, Star Energy Geothermal has recently partnered with Schlumberger (SLB), a global energy technology company based in the U.S., to implement technologies that enhance the economic impact of conventional geothermal projects and improve geothermal asset recovery rates.
"We are excited to collaborate with Star Energy Geothermal in introducing breakthrough technologies that reduce project risk and improve overall project economics from this clean and flexible energy source," said Irlan Amir, Vice President of Renewables and Energy Efficiency at Schlumberger.
In the realm of information technology, Star Energy Geothermal has also partnered with Kyndryl, the world's largest IT infrastructure services provider, to integrate generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) into its operations. This collaboration aims to optimize IT operations with advanced automation and AI Operations (AIOps).
By transitioning to the cloud, the company will not only lower operational costs but also increase agility and scalability, enabling Star Energy Geothermal to meet business needs more quickly. (EF/ZH)
