JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has encouraged the exploration of nuclear energy cooperation with the renewable energy company Masdar from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This initiative was discussed during his meeting with Masdar CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, on the sidelines of the World Government Summit (WGS) in Dubai.
"This step is part of Indonesia's effort to reach the net zero emission (NZE) target by 2060," said Airlangga.
In addition to developing solar, wind, green hydrogen, and geothermal energy projects, Indonesia is also beginning to explore the use of nuclear energy as an efficient and sustainable clean energy source.
As a renewable energy company known for projects such as the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant in West Java, Masdar is expected to be a strategic partner in the development of nuclear technology in Indonesia.
This collaboration is hoped to strengthen national energy security, particularly in addressing future energy needs.
The cooperation also aligns with Indonesia's commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition and expanding renewable energy projects across various regions, including the new capital, Nusantara, which is planned to rely on green energy as its primary power source. (DK/ZH)
