United States - Most graduates of top universities in the United States (US) are facing the challenge of increasingly competitive job opportunities, according to a report by Business Insider (BI).
This challenge is even faced by graduates of Master of Business Administration (MBA) programmes from Harvard, Yale, and Stanford.
Gracy Sarkissian, a staff member at Columbia University's career management centre, said that the number of MBA graduates who secured a job fell in 2023. This decline, said Gracy, even touched the lowest level since the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Allison Srivastava, Economist at Indeed Hiring Lab, said that currently the number of jobs is indeed sloping. The reason, said Alisson, is that a number of companies are still taking a wait-and-see attitude with the economy tending to slow down.
‘For example, if I look for a job in the financial services and software development sectors, it will take longer than in previous years,’ said Allison.
Meanwhile, Kory Kantenga, Head of Economics America at LinkedIn, believes that this condition can still improve if there is support from the government. For example, with the Fed's interest rate cut policy. (KR/LM)
