Medco Energi discovers hydrocarbon reserves in South Sumatra

JAKARTA – PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (MEDC), through its subsidiary PT Medco E & P Rimau, has successfully discovered hydrocarbon reserves at the West Kalabau-1 exploration well located in the Rimau Block, South Sumatra.
This success further strengthens MEDC’s commitment to maintaining energy production sustainability in Indonesia by optimising the potential of its assets.
The West Kalabau-1 well was successfully drilled to a depth of approximately 3,220 feet, targeting the Baturaja Formation, known as a productive reservoir in the region. Formation evaluation and initial analysis confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons, providing a solid foundation for further development planning.
Ronald Gunawan, President Director of PT Medco E&P Indonesia, stated that this discovery proves that the potential of Indonesia’s mature basins remains significant and largely untapped.
“We will work closely with SKK Migas to further evaluate the commercial potential of this discovery,” Ronald said in an official statement on Monday (3/3).
MEDC, together with SKK Migas, will conduct additional well tests and technical evaluations to assess the size and commercial feasibility of this discovery, which will guide future development activities. (EF/KR/ZH)
