Economists survey: 55% said Indonesia's economy is deteriorating

JAKARTA – Most experts assess that Indonesia’s current economic condition is worsening, surpassing that of three months ago.
In its report, the Institute for Economic and Social Research (LPEM) at FEB UI stated that 55%, or 22 respondents in its latest survey, indicated that the economy is now much worse.
"Only one expert viewed the situation as better," LPEM FEB UI wrote in its latest publication.
The average confidence level of respondents regarding the increasingly grim economic conditions in Indonesia was at 7.71 on a scale from 0-10, while the average economic perception score was -0.86, on a scale ranging from -2 (much worse) to +2 (much better).
LPEM FEB UI’s survey also revealed that 23 of the 42 economic experts predicted Indonesia's economic growth would be lower than current levels. No participants projected that the economy would grow more strongly.
LPEM UI explained that the survey aimed to capture insights from experts regarding Indonesia's economic landscape. The survey was conducted online from February 14-24, 2025.
"The survey sample consisted of 42 economic experts from diverse backgrounds, including academics, research institutions, think tanks, the private sector, and multinational organisations," LPEM UI wrote. (KR/ZH)
