JAKARTA – PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA), a subsidiary of PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (TPIA), is building a world-scale chlor-alkali and ethylene dichloride (CA-EDC) plant in Cilegon, Banten.

This IDR 15 trillion project is expected to be completed by 2027. The plant will create job opportunities for 3,000 workers during the construction phase and employ 250 workers once operational.

“The CA-EDC plant will have a production capacity of 400,000 tons per year of solid caustic soda or 827,000 tons in liquid form, and 500,000 tons per year of ethylene dichloride,” said Erwin Ciputra, President Director & CEO of TPIA, in a press release on Wednesday (19/3).

The plant is expected to reduce Indonesia's reliance on chlor-alkali imports by IDR 4.9 trillion per year, while all EDC produced will be exported, potentially adding IDR 5 trillion annually to the country's foreign exchange reserves.

To execute this project, TPIA has allocated capital expenditure of USD 350-400 million or approximately IDR 5.5-6.3 trillion in 2025. This investment is part of the company's long-term organic growth strategy to strengthen the national chemical supply chain.

“We believe that through strong collaboration with various stakeholders, TPIA continues to contribute positively to Indonesia’s economy and drive more sustainable growth in the national industry,” said Erwin. (DK/ZH)
