JAKARTA - PT Merdeka Battery Materials Tbk (MBMA) announced the first sale of 6,500 metric tonnes of nickel in the form of Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) produced by PT ESG New Energy Material (ESG).

This shipment is an important step for MBMA in strengthening its position as a major supplier of raw materials for the electric vehicle battery industry in the global market.

ESG is MBMA's joint venture with GEM Co., Ltd (GEM) which obtained an industrial business licence (IUI) in February 2025. The company made its first shipment in March 2025.

Teddy Oetomo, President Director of MBMA, emphasised that this achievement is an important milestone in the company's business strategy.

‘The successful first sale of MHP reflects our ability to complete the project on schedule and deliver high-quality feedstock to the global market,’ he said in an official statement, Thursday (3/4).

To ensure sustainable and efficient feedstock supply, Mr Teddy said, MBMA's subsidiary PT Sulawesi Cahaya Mineral (SCM) mine will supply ESG with limonite ore.

In addition, the construction of the Feed Preparation Plant (FPP) facility at the SCM Mine is said to be on schedule, to support the transportation of raw materials to ESG's plant in the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) starting in the second quarter of 2025. (DK/KR/LM)
