BI Survey: inflationary pressures slightly subside in February 2023
JAKARTA – The Retail Sales Survey by Bank Indonesia (BI) indicates that the inflation will start to deplete in February until May 2023. For the record, the survey was conducted in November 2022, back when the inflation reached 3.30% year-on-year (yoy).
Quoting the press release today (11/1), Erwin Haryono, Executive Director of the Communication Department of BI, claimed that the Price Expectation Index in February and May 2023 arrives at 134.6 and 140.2, decreasing from 138 in January and 140.8 in April 2023. “The respondents said that the price is estimated to decline as the goods supply is deemed adequate,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the retail sales in February 2023 is estimated to weaken compared to January 2023, contrasting with the Sales Expectation Index in May 2023 that increases from the index in April 2023.
In February 2023, the Sales Expectation Index is said to reach 124.7, shrinking from 150.6 in January 2023. However, said index in May 2023 arrives at 153.9, shifting from 146.9 in April 2023. (LK/ZH)
