July’s inflation at 3.08%, lower than last year’s record
JAKARTA – Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) recorded inflation at 3.08% in July 2023, lower than 4.94% seen in July 2022. However, looking at it month to month, July’s inflation was at 0.21%, higher than 0.14% reported in June 2023.
According to the BPS data quoted today (2/8), the category of goods that contribute to year-on-year (yoy) inflation includes foods, beverages, and tobacco products of 0.51%, housing, water, electricity, and household fuel of 0.39%, and transportation of 1.17%.
In July 2023, the inflation based on the categories, month-to-month, was made up of foods, beverages, and tobacco products of 0.06%, transportation of 0.08%, and education of 0.04%. Although the inflation in July 2023 was higher than June 2023, the monthly inflation in July 2023 was much lower than July 2022 of 0.64%.
There were 77 cities with high inflation rate, exceeding the national inflation level. Some of them are Gunung Sitoli, Nias, North Sumatra of 1.30%, Surakarta, Solo, Central Java of 0.31%, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan of 0.53%, Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara of 0.65%, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara of 0.21%, Manokwari, Papua of 1.43%, and Luwuk, Central Sulawesi of 0.73%.
