JAKARTA – Motor vehicle sales as of April 2024 dropped 34.91% from March 2024, in which vehicles of PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) still dominate the biggest market share in Indonesia. Compared to April 2023’s vehicle sales, the total sales in April 2024 slipped 17.53% year-on-year (yoy).

Quoted from the data of the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industry (Gaikindo) yesterday (14/5), vehicle sales were reported at 48,637 units per April 2024, down from 74,724 units in March 2024. Astra’s vehicles dominated 55% of the market with 26,908 units of sales, while the remaining 21,729 units were coming in from other manufacturers, such as Mitsubishi, Honda, Suzuki, Hyundai, Wuling, Nissan, and others.

In regard to that, Boy Kelana Soebroto, Head of Corporate Communications of PT Astra International Tbk (ASII), wishes that automotive industry still manages to grow throughout the year. “Astra will continue supporting domestic automotive industry by developing various options of vehicles that may contribute positively to national car sales,” he said in the press release.

For the low-cost green car (LCGC) sales, they clocked up to 9,743 units, with the highest market share, in which 81% of the market is owned by Astra.

Meanwhile, vehicle sales in April 2024 slipped 17.53% yoy from April 2023 of 58,981 units. Astra used to cover 59% of vehicle sales, with 34,717 units, while 41% other, or 24,264 units, came from other manufacturers. LCGC sales reached 9,987 units or 94% of total sales. (LK/ZH)
