JAKARTA. PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AALI), a subsidiary of PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) engaged in palm plantation, has submitted the request to join Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) as a member.

Santosa, CEO of AALI, said that this plan is a part of sustainable long-term business strategy that has been implemented by AALI for a couple of years now. “We have high expectation to join the list of palm oil manufacturers that are independently verified with high criteria and acknowledged internationally,” he added.

In addition, Santosa mentioned that AALI has taken on the missions of land utilisation, conservation, community support, and climate change mitigation within the past couple of years in order to be allowed a way in to RSPO.

Meanwhile, JD Cruz, CEO of RSPO, stated that his party is highly intrigued by AALI’s courage in taking this major step to enter RSPO. “AAL will soon join the global network of 6,000 institutions to manage palm industry sustainably,” he added.

According to IDNFinancials data, AALI reported net profit of IDR 230.53 billion in Q1 2024, up 18.60% year-on-year (yoy). This profit growth is in line with its revenue that climbed a shy of 0.81% yoy to IDR 4.80 trillion. (KR/ZH)
