BPS recorded decline in foreign tourists' travel
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded the number of national tourist trips (wisnas) in August 2024 to be 648.11 thousand, down 29.38% from 917.8 thousand in July 2024. The number of national tourist trips has not yet fully recovered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on the data compiled on Friday (18/10), it shows that there are 10 main destination countries for national tourists (wisnas) throughout August 2024. The first country where foreign tourists will go is Malaysia, followed by Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Tingkok, Cambodia, Australia, Japan, and South Korea.
In percentage terms, the distribution of foreign tourists traveling to Malaysia fell to 31.22% in August 2024 from 33.14% in July 2024, Saudi Arabia rose to 20.53% from 18.33%, Singapore rose to 13.70% from 12, 86%, Thailand to 5.50% from 5.18%, Timor Leste rose to 4.26% from 4.09%, China fell to 4.04% from 4.24%, Cambodia rose to 3.37% from 2.83%, Australia fell to 2.11% from 2.71%, Japan fell to 1.93% from 2.72%, and South Korea fell to 1.46% from 1.52%.
Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits (tourists) in August 2024 reached 1.39 million visits. The countries with the most visits were Malaysia 14.09%, Australia 11.47%, and China 9.41%. (LK/LM)
