PT Merdeka Battery Materials Tbk (MBMA) was founded in 2019 as PT Hamparan Logistik Nusantara. The company then became a subsidiary of Merdeka Copper Gold and changed its name. Currently, the company is engaged in the nickel mining industry as the raw material for manufacturing electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The mining sites are located in central and southeast Sulawesi. Besides mining, other business units are RKEF (rotary kiln-electric furnace) smelters, AIM (acid, iron, and metal) processing facilities, and the on-going HPAL (high pressure acid leaching) factory.
