JAKARTA - The Central Palapa Ring Project has been 100% completed. The fibre optic cable network, which is 2,995 kilometres long and goes across 17 districts and cities, is completed and ready to be tested before it begins full operation.
The Central Palapa Ring which was built across the provinces of East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and North Maluku consists of land cables 1,326.22 km long and 1,787.06 km of marine cables. The project, which worth Rp 1.38 trillion, allows 4G internet access with speeds of up to 30 Mbps.
Palapa Ring is an information toll in the form of fibre optics that connects all regions of Indonesia. As the backbone infrastructure of a broadband telecommunications network, Palapa Ring consists of three packages, namely Palapa Ring Western Package, Palapa Ring Central Package, and Palapa Ring East Package.
In addition to connecting all of Indonesia in the telecommunications network, the Palapa Ring development is intended to reduce the gap in telecommunications services between Java and other regions in Indonesia. (LM)
