JAKARTA - The Indonesian government has received ¥52 billion (Rp 7.14 trillion) in loan and grant from the Japanese government to be used in handling the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Indonesia.
The ¥50 billion loan and ¥2 billion grant were handed by Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masafumi Ishii to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Director-General of Asia, the Pacific, and Africa Desra Percaya on Monday (20/7).
"The loan is to be used as an emergency aid for COVID-19 handling in Indonesia, while the grant will be used to revamp health and medical equipment," wrote an official statement on the website of the Embassy of Japan in Jakarta.
"Japan continues to try to lead the international community to curb the spread of COVID-19 as soon as possible, carry out recovery effort and create societal and global economic stability as well as sustainable development."
The loan is part of the partnership between the Japanese government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to assist Indonesia in stabilising the economic and social sectors during the pandemic.
"Through the financial assistance and financing given in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the loan aims to curb the spread of COVID-19, carry out socio-economic recovery and stabilisation, and initiate sustainable development in Indonesia." (MS)
