"The use of smart grid technology is not limited to urban and large-scale electricity consumers, smart grid technology can also be utilized on small-scale Smart Micro Grids in rural and remote areas," said Ahmad through an official statement received by idnfinancials.com.

In the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJPM), the Government of Indonesia has determined the development of 5 smart grid points per year. With the addition of the smart grid, the electric power management system is claimed to be more efficient. In addition, PLN customers not only buy electricity but also become suppliers.

Meanwhile, Senda H. Kanam, Coordinator of Electricity Cooperation, assessed that the addition of a smart grid system will help reduce dependence on electricity from fossil-based power plants. However, the challenge of this system, said Kanam, requires quite a lot of investment because it uses technology with high standards. (KR/LM)
