JAKARTA - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) through its subsidiary PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin) together with Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation Limited (Keppel T&T), through its subsidiary, Keppel Midgard Holdings Pte. Ltd. (KMH) and Facebook Inc.’s subsidiary (Facebook) will build a subsea cable system that connects Indonesia with Singapore and America directly.
The submarine cable communication system (SKKL) called Bifrost with a length of more than 15,000 km, is expected to be completed in early 2024. When fully operational, the SKKL Bifrost will later become a submarine cable that has high-speed transmission, advanced and up-to-date technology and has the largest capacity crossing in the Asia Pacific.
“TelkomGroup through Telin invests in and becomes a member of the Bifrost submarine cable consortium with Facebook and Keppel. TelkomGroup is not just a partner to anchor or a landing party for SKKL Bifrost, but we really invest and have voting rights in the consortium. Even the SKKL segment that anchors in Jakarta is 100% owned by Telin. This is a clear proof that TelkomGroup maintains NKRI's sovereignty in the submarine cable business," said Telkom's Director of Wholesale & International Service, Dian Rachmawan.
In addition, the SKKL Bifrost has also prepared branching units (BU) towards Balikpapan and Manado which can later be used to anticipate infrastructure needs in the planned new capital city and also in the Eastern Region of Indonesia. Previously, Telin had also built the Indonesia Global Gateway (IGG) submarine cable and the US SEA cable connecting Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii and America. (LM)
