JAKARTA. The upcoming data centre of PT DCI Indonesia Tbk (DCII) in Bintan will have a capacity of 2,000-3,000 megawatts (MW). This facility is estimated to take up a total investment of USD 300 billion or approximately IDR 4,556 trillion.

Marco Cioffi, Deputy President Director of DCI Indonesia, said that the current price of megawatt is USD 10 million, equivalent to IDR 151 billion. "For one data centre of DCII, we expect its capacity to reach approximately 15-20 MW," he added as quoted by Bisnis yesterday (17/1). Therefore, the total investment in Bintan clocks up to USD 300 billion or IDR 4,556 trillion.

DCII is aiming to complete the construction of a data centre complex on Cibitung, Bekasi. It will consist of 15 data centres with a capacity of 300 MW, meaning that each data centre will have a capacity of 15-20 MW. DCII now manages four operating data centres in Cibitung. They are JK1 of 3 MW, JK2 of 7 MW, JK3 of 12 MW, and JK5 of 15 MW.

DCII has chosen Bintan as the location for data centres due to its strategic location. It is right beside Singapore, which is the centre of data processing in Southeast Asia. Thus, the company wishes to attract many international customers.

Based on Baxtel and Cushman & Wakefield report, DCII has data centres with the biggest capacity of 37 MW. Biznet claims the second place with 20 MW, followed by the Singapore-based Princeton Digital with 17 MW. PT Multipolar Technology Tbk (MLPT) from Lippo Group has another 5 MW, while another Singapore-based company, Space DC, records another 2 MW. (AM/ZH)
