Tourism regains strength in January 2023
JAKARTA – The number of international tourist visits in January 2023 was seen decreasing from December 2022, but still showed improvement from January 2022. So far, these numbers were far below 16.10 million visits recorded in 2019.
Based on Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) data quoted today (2/3), the number of tourist visits reached 735.95 thousand visits or 503.34% year-on-year (yoy) higher from 143.7 thousand visits in January 2022. However, it still fell below the record in December 2022 of 895.12 thousand visits.
In January 2023, Australian tourists reportedly dominated the visits, recording 20,246% year-on-year (yoy) increase, followed by Singaporean tourists with 19,823% yoy increase and Malaysian tourists with 120.33% yoy increase.
Then, following this growth, the room occupancy rate also shifted 2.43% yoy higher, albeit less significant. Three provinces with the highest occupancy rate in star-rated hotels were Yogyakarta, East Kalimantan, and Banten. (LK/ZH)
