JAKARTA - Foreign trade volume increased dramatically over the third weekend of March. The total number of shares purchased by foreigners was 33.38 billion, while the total number of shares sold was 29.93 billion. On Friday, March 17, the net foreign volume exceeded 3.44 billion shares. This figure was heavily influenced by large-scale transactions involving foreign investors in PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk shares (GOTO). This on-demand services company's shares were purchased in such large quantities, totaling 29.94 billion shares, that the net volume of GOTO alone reached 3.03 billion shares.

PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) and PT Surya Esa Perkasa Tbk (ESSA) also saw significant foreign investment. Foreigners purchased 391.95 million BUMI shares for a net volume of 322.22 million shares, while 221.01 million ESSA shares were purchased, although the net volume was only 37 million shares. Foreign investors also purchased 173.12 million shares of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) and 60.4 million shares of PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk (MTEL). BBRI had a net volume of 101.41 million shares, while MTEL had only 40.34 million shares.

On the other hand, many foreign investors actually dumped big chunks of shares of PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna Tbk (HMSP) and PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA). The total HMSP shares sold exceeded 153 million, while approximately 123 million BBCA shares were sold. The net volumes of the two issuers were also quite distinct because HMSP had a low volume of -52.14 million shares while BBCA had a volume of -19.28 million shares. Meanwhile, PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR) seemed to have the lowest net volume this time, with a -80.14 million volume after foreigners sold 90.07 million of its shares. Finally, the volumes of shares sold by foreigners in PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk (BRMS) and PT Surya Citra Media Tbk (SCMA) were in the 40–50 million share range, with a net volume of around negative 20 million shares each.
