Tourism activities slowly recover, not hitting rebound yet
JAKARTA – The foreign tourist visits were seen soaring 567.27% year-on-year (yoy) in February 2023. However, this surge has yet to record a rebound to the position before the COVID-19 pandemic, which reached over 1 million visits.
According to the data from Statistics Indonesia published on Monday (3/4), in February 2023, the tourist visits clocked up to 701.93 thousand, 606.85 thousand of which came from the main gate, followed by 95.08 thousand that were recorded from the border gates. Most of them came from Malaysia, Australia, and Singapore.
In February 2019, tourist visits reached 1.24 million visits, 987.97 thousand of which from the main gate, and another 265.03 thousand from the border gate. The visits began to drastically decline in February 2020, only reaching 872.77 visits. In February 2021 and February 2022, tourist visits were recorded at 105.79 thousand and 105.20 thousand, respectively.
As the tourist visits increase, room occupancy level was also increasing 9.29% yoy in February 2023. From December 2022 to February 2023, the room occupancy level managed to rise 47.83%. (LK/ZH)
