JAKARTA. PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) has officially introduced a joint venture (JV) called Equinix (NASDAQ: EQIX) to reinforce the digital infrastructure in Indonesia.

This joint venture is formed by 75% contribution of Equinix and 25% of ASII. The joint venture is then expected to accelerate digital transformation across the country.

“We hope that by collaborating with Astra, there will be new opportunities for Indonesia’s bright digital future,” Jeremy Deutsch, President of Equinix for Asia Pacific Region.

Meanwhile, Djony Bunarto Tjondro, President Director of ASII, claimed that the collaboration with Equinix takes place based on the digital economic growth in Indonesia, as well as the company’s focus in putting digital transformation into swifter motion. “We hope that this joint venture will reinforce the data centre infrastructure and assist business players in Indonesia,” he added.

For the initial stage, the JV of Equinix and ASII will develop and operate the International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in Central Jakarta. This data centre, rumoured to be located in 8-story building, will begin its operation in the second half of 2024. (KR/ZH)
