BNP Paribas AM eyes ESG-friendly issuers
JAKARTA - PT BNP Paribas Asset Management (AM) is targeting companies or publicly listed issuers that have implemented sustainability policy to be listed in investment portfolio in the Environment Social Governance (ESG) Equity Mutual Fund. This criterion serves as a form of support from this asset management company towards environmental sustainability program, promoting net zero emission by 2060.
Priyo Santoso, President Director of BNP Paribas AM, mentioned that the distinct quality of ESG Equity Mutual Fund is its selection of investment in bonds and shares that care about good environment, social, and governance. “The environment tools involve their attention towards energy transition and tools stability,” he explained to IDNFinancials in Jakarta.
According to Santoso, the company will evaluate the company’s role in implementing the energy transition policy. For example, altering from the fuel that leaves carbon traces to green energy, such as solar energy, micro-hydropower plant, or electricity. The utilisation of green energy will impact the environmental stability in the future.
The environmental change will affect socioeconomic aspects. “Hence, we pay much attention to environmental stability, on top of transition to green energy,” Santoso explained.
Furthermore, he explains that the evaluation in potential companies will look at how the companies handle social issues, including equality and inclusive growth. “Thus, we must regard companies that tend to social issues in its business,” Santoso stated. (LK/ZH)
