Expanding market, GoPay officially has its own app
JAKARTA – PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) officialy introduces GoPay application to the Indonesian public today, Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Since its introduction in 2016, GoPay now has an application dedicated to its own services, a stand-alone from Gojek and Tokopedia.
Patrick Walujo, Chief Executive Officer of GOTO, said that the launch of GoPay application is intended so that this digital wallet service could reach a bigger scope of audience. “It may become the initial stage for GoPay users to be turned into Gojek and Tokopedia users,” he added during the Launch of GoPay Application in Gojek HQ today (26/7).
Until December 2022, active annual transacting users of GOTO Group had reached 63 million. Compared to the total population of Indonesia that reaches approximately 270 million people, the market potential is definitely there. “We want Gopay to be used by all Indonesian citizens,” Hans Patuwo, Director of GoTo Financial, stated.
Patuwo also believes that this GoPay application is an attempt to attain financial inclusivity. “There are still 97 million Indonesians that are unbanked,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that the recently launched GoPay application will not replace the GoPay feature integrated within Gojek and Tokopedia apps. “Features of GoPay will still be developed for Gojek and Tokopedia apps. Thus, there will actually zero changes [for initial users],” explained Patuwo.
Highlighting light-size app, financial tracking feature, and free bank transfer feature, GoPay is said to be equipped with layered protection. “We have thought and invested a lot in security features to protect our users from frauds,” Walujo said.
When GoPay was first launched in 2016, this service is intended to lower the discomfort and friction caused by cash transactions in GoRide service, which was introduced to the masses in 2015. However, GoPay has become one of the most popular financial technology (fintech) services in Indonesia. (ZH)
