JAKARTA - PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM) concluded the first metal tapping of Haltim Ferronickel Plant in Halmahera, North Maluku, yesterday (12/9). This first metal tapping is the third phase of a series of commissioning targeted to be finished by the third quarter of 2023.

I Dewa Wirantaya, Director of Business Development of ANTM, mentioned that the first metal tapping is a continuation of switch-on phase of electric smelting furnace (ESF) that took place on July 19, 2023. “During the commissioning process, we ensure the stability and safety of the operation of the factory,” he said in the press release quoted Thursday (14/9).

According to Wirantaya, after the metal installation, the company will prepare for commercial products. Haltim Ferronickel Plant is expected to have a production capacity of 13,500 tons of nickel in ferronickel (TNi).

The ferronickel plant in Haltim will provide support for the production of Kolaka Ferronickel Plant in Southeast Sulawesi with a capacity of 27,000 TNi. These two combined will generate installed ferronickel production capacity of up to 40,500 TNi. (LK/ZH)
