BPS: Rice and gasoline are biggest triggers of inflation
JAKARTA. Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) recorded monthly inflation or Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September 2023 of 0.19% month-to-month (mtm). The surge in rice and gasoline price became the two biggest contributors to this growth of inflation.
The Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, confirmed that this inflation rate increased compared to the inflation rate in the previous month. In September 2023, inflation was at 0.19% mtm, which means that CPI rose from 115.22 in August 2023 to 115.44 in September 2023. Meanwhile, year on year (yoy), inflation in August 203 was recorded at 2.28%.
According to Widyasanti, the greatest contributors of inflation are rice, with inflation recorded at 0.18%, and gasoline contributed 0.6%. “It aligns with the adjustment of non-subsidised gasoline, Pertamax,” she mentioned in the press conference today (2/10).
Meanwhile, the commodities with contributions of 0.01% to the inflation, such as phone credit, academical college fee, filtered kretek cigarettes, and meat. Several commodities in foods and beverages group triggered deflation instead, including eggs, shallots, birds’ eye chili, garlic, and red chili. (AM/ZH)
