JAKARTA – Since December 2022, PT Estika Tata Tiara Tbk (BEEF), a distributor of meat and meat-based processed food, has been granted an import license of live cattle from Australia, and now has an import quota of 12,000 cattle per year.

Based on the explanation during Public Expose of BEEF 2023 yesterday (5/10), from late 2022 until July 2023, BEEF has imported approximately 3,457 live cattle. “This upcoming October 23 or 24, we are expecting another 1,600,” said Imam Subowo, President Director of BEEF.

It is known that the feedlot in Subang has a capacity of 4,320 cattle. “Out of 3,457 imported cattle, there are 1,254 remaining. Most of them are sold,” added Subowo. According to the presentation, live cattle sales had contributed 12% to total revenue of BEEF until June 2023.

Until the end of July 2023, there were 2,165 live cattle left for sale. “Next year, we aim to sell a minimum 1,000 cattle per month. In other words, we also have to import another 1,000,” Subowo mentioned.

“This year, we record import quota of 12,000 cattle. Next year, we expect to reach 15,000 to 16,000 cattle,” added Subowo.

Regarding the fluctuation of rupiah exchange rate in import activities, the company claims to be selective in seeking suitable price from suitable exporter. “Hedging is still being discussed,” Subowo explained. (ZH)
