Capital market expected to drive shipping industry to become more competitive
JAKARTA - Raising funds from the capital market is expected to create competitive competition between shipping industry business players in Indonesia. This was conveyed by Faty Khusumo, Deputy General Chair VII of the Indonesian National Shipowner's Association (INSA) DPP in Jakarta, Friday (10/11).
According to Faty, capital market regulations that make it easier for companies to carry out initial public offerings (IPO) should be a means of capital for shipping companies. "Currently, the Indonesian capital market has also created an acceleration board for small and medium scale companies to conduct an IPO," he said.
On the other hand, he reminded that the challenges in the shipping industry are not only related to capital issues, but also the need to maintain healthy competition between industry players. "Don't let "cheap" capital actually create unhealthy competition for the industry," said Faty, who is also President Director of PT Temas Tbk (TMAS).
Previously, Carmelita Hartoto, Chairman of the INSA DPP, conveyed that the capital market was an alternative source of financing for shipping companies. "The shipping sector will be strategic because the maritime sector is an element for Indonesia's development," he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between BEI and INSA, yesterday (9/11).
