JAKARTA. Tempo-IDNFinancials awarded Agus Salim Pangestu, CEO of PT Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT), as the Best CEO in Basic Materials at the 2023 TOP CEO Awards at Sofitel Nusa Dua, Bali, last Friday (1/12), thanks to his success in bringing his energy company to overcome the pandemic crisis while still abiding by ESG principles.

Joining Barito Pacific Group in 1997, Agus Salim Pangestu officially held the position of CEO of Barito Pacific in June 2013. Since then, he has led the company to become one of the big names in the industry, particularly in commodity chemicals.

Working closely with companies under Barito Pacific Group, he secures the position as Commissioner in PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (TPIA) in 2011. Currently, he also serves as President Commissioner of PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN), another company awarded during TOP CEO Awards 2023.

As a holding company of renowned companies in Indonesia, Barito Pacific has various business lines that are currently thriving in their respective areas, including petrochemicals through TPIA and geothermal energy through Star Energy Geothermal and BREN.

Even though BRPT's financial performance was sluggish at the end of 2022, in the future, the company has great potential to further establish itself as a top energy company in the country with the initiation of coal power plant decarbonization and the electrification agenda throughout Indonesia.

TOP CEO Awards 2023 is the second form of collaboration between Tempo.co and IDNFinancials, continuing the successful launch of Index52 last June. This award was given to 43 CEOs of Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) issuers who were considered successful in bringing their companies through the crisis, whilst not forgetting their commitment to ESG principles.
