Indonesia’s economy’s strength still focused in Java and Sumatra
JAKARTA – The economic structure of Indonesia is still heavily concentrated in Java and Sumatra throughout 2023. However, cumulatively, the highest economic growth from quarter to quarter could be observed in eastern Indonesia.
Based on Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) data quoted today (6/2), Java contributed 57.05% to Indonesia’s economy, 4% higher than percentage in 2022. Sumatra follows behind with contribution of 22.01%, far behind Kalimantan of 8.49%, Sulawesi of 7.10%, Bali and Nusa Tenggara of 2.77%, as well as Maluku and Papua of 2.58%.
Cumulatively, quarter to quarter, economic growth in Maluku and Papua was recorded at 6.94%, followed by Sulawesi at 6.37%, Kalimantan 5.43%, Java 4.96%, and Sumatra 4.69%. Bali and Nusa Tenggara fall behind with 4%.
Economic growth in Papua and Maluku originated from manufacturing, mining and drilling, as well as trading industries. In Sulawesi, economic growth was seen in similar industries, while in Kalimantan, the growth came from mining and drilling, as well as construction and manufacturing industries. (LK/ZH)
