JAKARTA - Star Energy Geothermal, a subsidiary of PT Barito Renewables Tbk (BREN), will boost the capacity of its geothermal power plant by 116 megawatt (MW) in operational areas of Salak, Darajat, and Wayang Windu.

Hendra Tan, President Director of BREN, said that this geothermal capacity increase goes hand in hand with retrofit and Salak Binary program development. “Total capacity increase from retrofit program will increase revenue by USD 40 million per annum,” he said in the press release quoted Friday (31/5).

According to Tan, 53 MW of total geothermal capacity increase target in three operational areas will be attained through the development of Salak Binary and retrofit program. “Salak Binary and retrofit program have been in progress, and we expect it to be concluded in 2026,” he added.

It is said that the implementation of said plan is the company’s commitment in business development, as well as a means to promote the government’s energy transition program.

In line with said topic, Suharsono Darmono, Deputy Chief Asset Management of Star Enery Geothermal, said that Salak Binary project is a state-of-the-art technology innovation in geothermal sector, absorbing geothermal power from hot brine water, which will be transformed into electricity. Meanwhile, the retrofit program will be a part of the company’s strategies to increase efficiency in power plants.

Star Energy will also increase 39.2 MW for Salak, Drajat, and Wayang Hindu via the retrofit program. The target of commercial operation date (COD) for Salak and Wayang Hindu plant falls in 2025, while Drajat plant is projected to operate in 2026. (LK/ZH)
