Retail sales expected to decline in October 2024
JAKARTA - Sales performance in the next six months starting from October 2024 to January 2024 is expected to decline, due to the return to normal demand after national religious holidays and year-end holidays.
Based on the Retail Sales Survey data published by Bank Indonesia (BI) quoted on Tuesday (11/10), the Sales Expectation Index (IEP) in October 2024 and January 2025 were 139.7 and 153.1 points respectively, lower than the previous period at the level 140.5 and 165 points.
In terms of prices, inflation in October 2024 and January 2025 is expected to increase. The General Price Expectation Index (IEH) in October 2024 and January 2025 was recorded at 134.5 and 161 points.
Meanwhile, retail sales performance in the third quarter of 2024 rose 5.1% from the third quarter of 2023. The increase in retail sales occurred in the clothing subgroup and the food, beverage and tobacco groups. (LK/LM)
