BREN to allocate USD 346 million for Star Energy Geothermal’s capacity raise
JAKARTA - Star Energy Geothermal (SEG), a subsidiary of PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN), will channel investment worth USD 346 million in order to boost energy capacity in several geothermal plants.
In the press release quoted Thursday (19/9), Hendra Tan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BREN, said that the SEG capacity increase will be done through retrofitting and installing new capacity. “It will also support Indonesia in attaining net zero emission target,” he added.
According to Tan, SEG’s installed capacity is projected to increase to 102.6 megawatt (MW), which will then reinforce BREN’s position as a renowned power plant company in the international scene.
The expansion of power plants will involve the installation of additional 40 MW in Salak Unit 7 and extra 30 MW in Wayang Windu Unit 3. Meanwhile, for existing units, there will be capacity increases, as well, such as 7.2 MW increase in Salak Unit 4, 5, and 6 retrofit; 18.4 MW increase in Wayang Windu Unit 1 and 2 retrofit; and 7 MW increase in Drajat Unit 3 retrofit.
Therefore, these boosts will bring Wayang Windu’s energy capacity to 278.9 MW from 230.5 MW, Salak Unit’s to 428.2 MW from 381 MW, and Drajat to 281.5 MW from 274.5 MW.
The development of these projects are claimed to have followed the terms and conditions for Joint Operation Contract, which will allow SEG to raise its energy capacity even higher, up to 400 MW in Wayang Windu, 495 MW in Salak, and 330 MW in Drajat. (LK/ZH)
