JAKARTA - PT Biomassa Lestari Nusantara (BLN), a joint venture between PT Dharma Energi Investama, a subsidiary of PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk (DSNG) and PT Sumitomo Forestry Indonesia, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Forestry Co. Ltd, conducted a trial operation of the first wood pellet factory in Boyolali, Central Java.

Andrianto Oetomo, President Director of DSNG, said that the presence of the wood pellet factory is a form of the company's commitment to implementing the circular economy concept because it minimizes wood waste into value-added products. "This important step is also a joint effort to contribute to the development of renewable energy in Indonesia," he said in a press release quoted on Friday (20/9).

The Wood Pellet Factory is located in Ngadirojo Village, Gladagsari, Boyolali, on an area of 4 hectares (Ha) with a production capacity of 60 thousand tons per year. This factory is expected to support sustainable energy needs and boost the local economy because all of its raw materials come from the community in Boyolali.

On the other hand, Toshiro Mitsuyoshi, President Director of Sumitomo Forestry Co. Ltd, the presence of a wood pellet factory will optimize the potential of wood. "We have a goal of decarbonizing through the wood cycle, which is a circulation of the wood value chain in the forestry, wood manufacturing, and building construction sectors," he said.

According to him, this factory supports the use of wood sustainably and gradually, while also providing environmentally friendly energy solutions. (LK/LM)
