JAKARTA – The number of international tourist visits hit 1.34 million in August 2024, up 2.23% from the previous month. However, cumulatively, it has yet to match the number of tourist visits pre-pandemic.

Based on Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) quoted Tuesday (1/10), the number of international tourist visits in August 2024 increased 18.30% compared to August 2023. Approximately 14.09% of the tourist came from Malaysia, which was the highest, followed by Australia 11.47%, and China 9.41%.

Meanwhile, total number of tourists visits reached 9.09 million until August 2024 (8M), which was 20.38% year-on-year (yoy) higher.

On the other hand, domestic tourists reported 75.88 million visits in August 2024, down 1.77% from July 2024. Compare to August 2023, however, it soared 29.31% higher.

Then, throughout January-August 2024 (8M), BPS recorded domestic tourist visits reaching 674.60 million in total, up 19.20% yoy from the same period last year. (LK/ZH)
