JAKARTA – Statistics Indonesia (lit. Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS) recorded deflation of 0.12% in September 2024, which was a five-month streak since May 2024. This condition has never occurred within the past two years, even in the same period.

Based on BPS data quoted Wednesday (2/10), deflation was seen in May 2024 at 0.03%, followed by 0.08% in June, 0.18% in July, and 0.03% in August. In September, the deflation mostly came from red chili pepper, birds’ eye chili, fuel, purebred chicken eggs, and purebred chicken meat.

On the other hand, inflation was at 1.84% in September 2024 compared to September 2023. Since the beginning of this year until September 2024 (year-to-date), the inflation was at 0.74%.

Inflation was reported resulting from increased prices of several expenditure groups, such as food, beverages, and tobacco products; clothing and footwear; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel; as well as household tools, equipment, and routine maintenance. (LKZH)
