JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI pays serious attention to funding support and empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as one of the pillars of sustainability in implementing the principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).

BNI Risk Management Director David Pirzada said that easy access to financing for MSME business growth is an important step in empowering MSMEs to support the national economy. By providing ease in obtaining capital, MSMEs can develop their businesses, increase production capacity, and create new jobs.

"In addition, MSME empowerment also contributes to economic diversification and increased competitiveness, which will ultimately strengthen overall economic stability," he said.

Until the end of September 2024, BNI has consistently distributed credit to the MSME segment, including subsidized and non-KUR people's business credit (KUR).

Credit distribution to the MSME sector reached IDR 77.3 trillion, consisting of KUR of IDR 36.6 trillion and non-KUR of IDR 40.7 trillion.

"This reflects BNI's strong commitment to supporting economic growth through the MSME sector which is the backbone of the national economy," said David.

BNI's involvement in empowering MSMEs also reflects the company's broader social responsibility. By establishing strategic partnerships with various government institutions and non-governmental organizations, BNI seeks to create an ecosystem that supports MSME growth.

David further explained that BNI not only provides easier financial access for MSME players, but is also committed to providing assistance and training so that they can develop their businesses sustainably.

Through innovative programs such as Jejak Kopi Khatulistiwa, BNI UMKM Ramah Lingkungan, Kampung Budidaya Perikanan and Expora, BNI helps MSMEs adopt environmentally friendly business practices, while increasing their competitiveness in the global market.

BNI's commitment to creating an ESG-based business is evident in the achievement of a sustainability portfolio that reached IDR 188 trillion, 26% of BNI's total credit as of September 2024. This is not only about financial gain, but also about building a stronger and more competitive community.

"Through these various initiatives, BNI plays an active role in advancing the local economy while preserving the environment and improving the quality of life of the community," he added. (*)
