BANDUNG – Royke Tumilaar, President Director of PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BBNI) or BNI, has been awarded the The Best CEO with Special Mention: Strong Commitment in Promoting Financial Inclusion with 20 Million Accounts by Tempo-IDNFinancials at the 2024 Top CEO Awards Indonesia, held in Bandung on Friday (15/11).

Tumilaar was recognized for his success in promoting financial inclusion across Indonesia through BNI’s various initiatives, such as BNI Agen46, BNI Pandai, the Waste Bank, Super Bidan, and Business Matching for People with Disabilities. These programs have broadened access to banking services, not only in the country's most remote areas but also for marginalized groups including children, women, and people with disabilities.

According to BNI’s 2023 Sustainability Report, the number of BNI Agen46 increased by 12.6% year-on-year (yoy) to 185,697 agents, covering 8,771 districts across Indonesia. BNI Agen46 partners with individuals and legal entities to provide banking services in low-population or vulnerable economic areas. In 2023, these agents facilitated 85.5 million transactions worth IDR 59.9 trillion, contributing IDR 3.7 trillion to operational current account savings accounts (CASA). By the end of 2023, BNI Pandai, a no-fee savings account available through Agen46, had reached 20 million accounts, making it easier for the public to access financial services.

Since Tumilaar's appointment as President Director in September 2020, BNI has seen strong growth in assets, lending, net interest income, and net profit. The bank's dividend payout ratio also rose to 40% for the 2022 fiscal year, up from 25% over the previous four years.

As of September 2024, BNI, a constituent of the Indeks52, recorded a 5.75% yoy growth in lending, reaching IDR 735 trillion, while net profit increased by 3.4% yoy to IDR 16.43 trillion. In July, BNI launched its latest mobile banking service, wondr by BNI, offering a fresh and modern user experience.

This is Tumilaar’s second time winning The Best CEO title, following his recognition as The Best CEO of the Most Sustainable Bank at the 2023 Top CEO Indonesia 2023 held in Bali last year. (ZH)
